According to Korea Tourism Organization on August 15, Union of International Associations analyzed international conference cities in the world, and announced that Busan hosted 37 international conferences (UIA standard) and was ranked 8th in Asia and 41st in the world. It was ranked 10th in Asia and 73rd in the world in 2005.
Busan’s accomplishment for international conferences tends to be increased from previous years. (6 cases in 2004, 23 cases in 2005 and 37 cases in 2006)
Seoul hosted 89 cases and was ranked 2nd in Asia, 11th in the world and Jeju, for the first time, became within top 10 in Asia.
Especially, this survey shows that Korea, with annual 185 cases of international conferences, is ranked 3rd in Asia followed by Singapore and China and 16th in the world.
In order to be ranked by UIA, the conference has to be hosted or supported by international organizations, or hosted by domestic associations or international organizations in the nation and more than 300 people have to participate and 40% and more has to be foreigners from at least 5 countries.
