The event wins support from IOC, UNESCO and WHO

The 4th Busan TAFISA World Sport For All Games, also known as TreX-Games Busan 2008, is expected to receive enhanced status via the official support provided by the IOC,  UNESCO and WHO.

During the recently held first session, the event's organizing committee, headed by Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik, said, "The IOC has decided to provide support for the event. Thus, the organizing committee will have the official right to inform IOC-member countries of the event."

The organizing committee will significantly expand the magnitude of the event, encouraged by the announcement of the official support by the UNESCO, WHO and IOC.

By adding extreme games and electronic sports, in addition to traditional martial arts, to the event's entries, the committee plans to make the event a comprehensive one. Compared to the third event held in Hanover, Germany, in which 1,000 athletes participated from 50 countries, the Busan event will have about 10,000 athletes from 100 nations -- 6,000 Koreans and 4,000 foreigners.

The organizing committee will also increase the budget to 30 billion won ($32.3 million) from 6.3 billion won ($6.8 million).

Busan City expects that the event's success will be conducive to its plan to host the 2020 Summer Olympics, as at least 50 IOC members will attend it.

The committee has set up its secretariat office at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium in Sajik-dong, Dongnae District, and started activities for the preparation of the 2008 event.
