Summer festivals
In July and August, Haeundae and Gwangalli Beaches in Busan, two of the most reputable summer vacation spots in Korea, are offering plenty of great festivals such as the Busan Sea Festival, the Busan International Beach Dance Festival and the Busan International Rock Festival. Also on deck are marine sports events, the Beach Volleyball Game and a beach music festival. Take time out to visit the beautiful beaches where you can make wonderful memories.

The Busan Sea Festival is slated for Aug. 1 to 10
The 12th Busan Sea Festival will be held at seven beaches, including Haeundae and Gwangalli. Focused on the themes of "The Sea of Festivities" and "The City of Energetic Youths," this year's event will provide a variety of exciting programs. The event this year will foc us on programs that people can actually participate and get various first-hand experiences.
"The Summer Funny Land" event, to be held at Gwangalli Beach on Aug. 4 and 5, will include the "Beach Guinness Contest." There will also be an ice-sculpting event and a watermelon punch-making contest.
1 Fireworks and music concert
The opening event will be held at a specially arranged stage at Haeundae Beach at 7 p.m. on Aug. 1. A naval band will announce the opening with its music and famed singers are expected to give the crowd something to cheer about.
They will be followed by a jazz performance by Trio Innova, composed of professors at a French national conservatory of music. Happy, light and joyous melodies of the accordion, piano and tuba will resonate throughout the beach. A fireworks show will light up the night sky for about 15 minutes from 10 p.m.
There will also be opportunities to enjoy melodious classical music and Korean songs. At 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, the nation's famous vocalists and musicians will play classics during the Open Concert with Kookje Daily News at Gwangalli Beach. At 8 p.m. on Aug. 6, the Passion Concert, a folk-rock and jazz concert for families, will be held at the same place.

2 Sporting events
A variety of marine sporting events will be held at the Suyeong Bay Yachting Center and Gwangalli Beach . From Aug. 2 to 4, the "Korea-China-Japan Children's Yachting Competition" will be held at the Suyeong Bay Yachting Center. On Aug. 5, the 8th Busan Mayor Cup Yacht Racing Game will be held at the same place.
At Gwangalli Beach, there will be motor boat and ocean rafting lessons on Aug. 2; The Beach Volleyball Game on Aug. 5; a pro gamers'sleague hosted by Shinhan Bank on Aug. 4; and a poem/essay reading session with novelists and literary critics on Aug. 7.
3 Fun events
These exciting events will be held at Gwangalli Beach on Aug. 4 and 5.
■ Beach Guinness Contest -- Anyone can take part in the event, the most popular among the events listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. The winner will be the one who has the largest number of people in a car.
■ Making mammoth
watermelon punch -- Family members, lovers and friends are invited to share in the fun of making watermelon punch for 5,000 people. Sports and film stars will join in on the fun.
■ Ice-sculpting event -- The event will offer a chance to fight the heat by making various ice sculptures, including ice pillars and ice beds. Participants can take photos in front of their unique ice sculptures. Beverages will also be served free of charge.
