The City of Busan has announced that it will include an exhibit dedicated to the ‘Sanbokdoro (Hillside Road) Project’ at ARTSHOW Busan 2014, which will be held from April 18 - 21 at BEXCO.
As part of the Art Band Program which introduces various art activities into local communities, the exhibit will feature photos, videos and installations displaying the value of the Sanbokdoro as a tourist resource.
Various artists who have been involved with the program as well as the Sanbokdoro project, including - Jung Man-young, Kim Hong-hee, Heo Byung-chan, Song Sung-jin, Moon, Jin-woo, Kim E-seul and Byun Jae-kyu will display their artwork.
An archive exhibition of a number of cultural activities from the hillside road project over the past ten years will be held as well.
The Gamcheon Culture Village Art Bus Tour will be operated from BEXCO once a day (4 p.m. - 7 p.m.) from April 18 to 20. The tours are available, free of charge on a first come, first served basis for spectators at ARTSHOW Busan.
Through the Sanbokdoro (Hillside Road) Renaissance Project, areas that were once used as homes for refugees during the Korean War have been transformed into valuable resources for both the community itself and the City of Busan by preserving the rich local history through art and stories. Due to the project’s success, the area attracted a total of 450,000 visitors in 2013.
