Modern Korean Masterpieces to Be Exhibited at Busan Museum of Art from April 8

An exhibit of 100 modern Korean paintings entitled “Masterpieces of Modern Korean Painting” is coming to Busan. The exhibit had previously been shown at the the Deoksugung Palace, a branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA).


Masterpieces of Modern Korean Painting will be held at the Busan Museum of Art from April 8 through July 6 for 90 days.


The exhibition features 100 modern paintings completed by 57 artists who represent the past half century of Korean history, from the 1920s to the 1970s.


The works of art to be featured are collections from the MMCA, the National Assembly Library, 20 national and public institutes, private art museums, and 30 private collectors. In Seoul, the exhibition was open for four months and attracted an average of 3,000 visitors a day and totaled more than 250,000 by its closing date. This strong showing, which demonstrated the potential of Korean art, is expected to continue in Busan.
