The Busan International Performing Arts Festival Organizing Committee is proud to announce this year’s selections to open and close the 11th Busan International Performing Arts Festival (BIPAF) May 2-11.

Star Trip from Spain and The Painters from Korea have been selected as the opening and closing performances respectively.

STAR TRIP is a slapstick show using Yllana’s characteristic black humour and universal language without words to bring audiences into the fascinating and absurd world of space and science fiction.

Four intrepid astronauts have been hibernating for the past 50 years in a space-craft drifting through space. Their mission: to find intelligent life wherever it may exist in the universe and destroy it.

The show begins when the crew awakes. Their fight to control a living craft, their difficult daily lives and the different worlds with which they are colluding, all set the stage for a dizzying journey to the limits of comedy.

With a capturing soundtrack and elaborate visual effects, Yllana pays tribute to their most beloved genres: space movies, science fiction and scientific terror tales.

This is the third performance by YLLANA Production at the BIPAF. PAGAGNINI by YLLANA was performed at the BIPAF in 2009 and 2013 and enjoyed record success.

“The PAINTERS: HERO” displays a new concept of art performance by combining fantastic live drawing and up-to-date skills in media art. The process of creating art is being cheerfully expressed on stage with comic mimes and joyful dance.

‘HERO’ is a topic of the performance and “The PAINTERS: HERO” brings this topic to life through various artistic techniques on stage.  Its 3D mapping uses three-dimensional performances and colorful lighting to produce a spectacular show that also incorporates audience participation for the enjoyment of all.

Under the new concept of “NanJang, Squirming for Free!,” the BIPAF 2014 will be held from May 2 - 11 for ten days at the Busan Cultural Center, Busan Citizens’ Hall, several small theaters in Suyeong-gu, and the outdoor stage in the BIPAF ZONE at Gwangalli Beach. A total of ten invited plays from nine different countries and 25 fringe plays as well as a variety of side events are scheduled to be performed at this year’s festival. The BIPAF will also give away a chance to participate in a world-renowned festival to one of 18 entries all competing for the opportunity.
