In the cities of Busan, Ulsan, and Tongyeong the cherry blossoms are expected to begin to bloom between April 1-2 around areas closer to the coast and from April 6-13 further inland.
Blooming dates are decided depending on the temperature in February and March. This year, the temperature in February was above-average while early March was slightly colder than usual. However, the middle and end of the month are forecasted to be warmer which is expected to cause the blossoms to arrive three days early this year.
Considering the cherry blossoms take about a week until they are in full bloom, they will be best viewed on April 8 in Busan (coastal areas April 8-9, inland areas April 13-20).
Cherry blossoms typically bloom from the end of March to the beginning of April, when temperatures vary. Therefore, when the blossoms will be in bloom generally differs by a few days every year.
The figures below indicate the dates when the cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in Korea in 2014. The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts when the blossoms will be in bloom every year.
