Interpretation services are available in six languages

Busan City and the Busan Foundation for International Activities will provide free interpretation and translation services for foreigners who are having difficulty communicating in Korean. For those who need interpretation services at hospitals or public institutions, the City will provide free services to foreigners.

Interpretation or translation support will include free one-on-one services in six languages: English, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Vietnamese and Indonesian. Those wishing to receive interpretation services should call the Foundation at 1577-7716, or make reservations at the website (www.bfia.or.kr).

There are, however, a few exceptions to the interpretation services, the City said. The Foundation does not provide interpretation services to foreigners seeking tourism guidance, foreigners on short-term stays in Busan, or advice on anything related to business or legal issues, academic issues or life- or death-related issues.

“We believe the free interpretation will be a big help to foreigners who have difficulty in communicating in Korean,” a City official said. “We hope many foreigners will make use of the services.”
