Busan Port makes its full recovery from damage done by Typhoon Maemi as the gantry cranes are reinstalled in the port later this month. The re-installation will mark the end of the 6-month efforts to heal a scar from the typhoon that swept the region last September.

The efforts are indeed remarkable given the original estimate that a full recovery will take at least one year. The recovery from the typhoon damage is a boost to the morale and international competitiveness of the port, which recently witnessed a steady decline in the volume of transshipment cargos.

The typhoon had destroyed 2 cranes and derailed 3 at Jaseongdae Container Terminal, while crushing six cranes at Singamman Container Terminal. The port has since devoted itself to installing new replacement cranes.
