The region's IT industry policies this year will focus on the digital content and maritime IT industries. The Busan metropolitan city government and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency announced their plan Thursday to invest 4 billion won this year alone in the region's sagging IT industries.
To make the most of the investment, the authorities set its focus on those two industries that hold a large potential for future growth. They will also make joint efforts to make a success of the Busan IT Forum and the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) Telecom Asia, to be held respectively in April and September this year.
As for the digital contents industry, the city will spend 150 million won on the first-ever "Busan Digital Content Festival," which the city hopes to groom into such international events as the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF).The festival is expected to be a boon to the region's digital contents industry as it will feature diverse events, including digital content exhibitions, promotion and competition as well as an international conference and an on-line game competition.
The city and the agency will also help individual digital content companies by organizing an e-entertainment forum, building a testing environment for on-line products like games and mobile content, and assisting the companies in their marketing.
