Gimhae International Airport is adding new international routes from March. The upcoming expansion and new international flights of Gimhae International Airport will provide greater convenience for overseas travelers in Busan and the southeastern area of Korea, as well as enhancing the city’s international status.

Local budget carrier Air Busan began taking reservations on Feb. 1 for its new services to Fukuoka and Osaka in Japan.

The Busan to Fukuoka route starts on March 29, while Air Busan will launch its service to Osaka on April 26. In October, a new service between Busan and Haneda Airport near Tokyo is also scheduled to be launched, with a total of two flights per day.

Asiana Airlines operated a direct flight test service connection Busan and Singapore for a month, from January 10 to February 7. It marked the first time this service has been offered between Gimhae International Airport and Singapore. During the flight test service, the average boarding rates reached 98 percent so demand for the flight was sufficient. Asiana Airlines is considering launching a regular service to Singapore from April.

From December 2009, Lufthansa German Airlines increased the number of flights on its Busan to Munich via Incheon route from 3 times a week to 5 times a week. Meanwhile, Korean Air has resumed flights from Busan to Hanoi, Vietnam, with flights leaving twice a week, every Monday and Thursday.
