Prior to the G20 Summit in Seoul this November, the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors will meet to prepare for the Leaders’ Seoul Summit in Busan, in June. After its successful hosting of the 2005 APEC Economic Leaders’ meeting, Busan is expected to achieve fame again as an international conference city.

The presidential G20 preparatory committee announced that the G20 finance ministers and bank governors meeting will be held in Busan from June 3rd to June 5th. The decision to hold the meeting in Busan was made after careful consideration of the event’s size and nature, accessibility to an airport, conference and lodging facilities, and promotion of the regional international conference industry.

About 1,000 delegates including finance ministers of the G-20 countries and central bank governors will visit Busan during the meeting.

Busan City, designated as a specialized financial center last January, expects that the hosting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Bank Governors Meeting will contribute significantly towards its development as a specialized financial hub in Northeast Asia. Moreover, the meeting will have a great impact on the development of another of Busan’s major strategic projects, the exhibition and convention industry.

Baek Seong-taek, the Ambassador for International Relations in Busan City said, “Hosting of this global event, at which financial leaders from all around the world will gather, is a great chance for us to promote our city to the world, as was the 2005 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. We expect that the event will tremendously raise Korea’s brand value as well as Busan’s international profile.”
