Start saying good-bye to 2010 in style at the first ever Busan Port Lighting Festival, scheduled to set sail December 18th, 2010 to January 9th, 2011 at Namhang (South Port) and Jung-gu, Seo-gu and Yeongdo-gu in Busan City.

On the eve of the festival (Dec.17), a gigantic parade featuring over 300 performers and citizens in futuristic costumes aglow with LED lights, neon lights, and glow-in-the dark accessories will wind though the streets of Yeongdo-gu, Seo-gu and Jung-gu. The official opening ceremony of the festival will not take place until the following evening (on Dec. 18, at the waterfront park of Jagalchi Market) at which the “Light Multimedia Art Show” will be held against the beautiful backdrop of Namhang Bridge’s water screen and accented with a misty fountain and fireworks show.

Even more stunning than the parade and opening festivities will be the choreographed spotlights shining from Namhang Bridge and the stellar laser show in which enormous laser beams will create a spectacular scene by connecting three different mountain tops – Mt. Cheonmasan in Seo-gu, Mt. Bongnaesan in Yeongdo-gu, and Mt. Yongdusan in Jung-gu. The laser show lasts 5 minutes and runs every half hour from 18:00 to 23:00 on weekdays, and until midnight on weekends.

In addition to fireworks, lasers and parades, there will be a number of LED, neon and glow-in-the dark displays scattered throughout the festival grounds. At Jung-gu, visitors can enjoy the Yongdusan Tower Light Art Show, while at the Jagalchi Market, 15 pavilions will be set up with “light art” exhibits and installations. Seo-gu will present eight illuminated works by media artists from home and abroad as well as 18 prize-winning works from a citywide competition. Along with the exhibition of masterpieces by local and international media artists and the competition-winning artworks, Yeongdo-gu will hold its “Lighting Street” event, with a whole avenue filled with glittering lights perfectly in tune with the holiday season.
