Busan Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangnam-do will hold the opening ceremony of Geoga Bridge at Geoje Rest Area in Jangmok-myeon, Geoje City on December 13 and the bridge will officially open to the public at 6 a.m. on December 14, 2010. The bridge toll has been set at 10,000 won and will be levied from January 1, 2011. Crossing the bridge will be free until the end of December this year.

The 8.2 kilometer Geoga Bridge is a four-lane highway connecting Gadeokdo Island in Busan with Jangmok-myeon in Geoje and consists of two cable-stayed bridges (4.5km) and a 3.7 kilometer undersea road tunnel, the first ever constructed in Republic of Korea, which will be connected to the bridge section. When the bridge is opened, the distance between Busan and Geoje will be reduced from 140km to 60km and the travel time between the two cities will be reduced to just 40 minutes, from the current 2 hours and 10 minutes.

The opening of the Geoga Bridge will reduce travel time and physical distribution costs, and will give a great boost to the ‘Era for the Southern Coast of Korea’ for the harmonious development of Busan and the Gyeongnam Region.
