Special Exhibition: Shanghai Museum’s Collection of Ancient Chinese Bronzes and Jades

Busan Museum presents a special exhibition of ancient Chinese bronzes and jades in possession of Shanghai Museum for the first time in Korea to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China and the 14th anniversary of sisterhood between the City of Busan and the City of Shanghai.


Featuring 95 pieces of bronzes and jades made in ancient China (4,000 B.C. ~ 220 A.D.), this exhibition is hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education and Busan MBC and sponsored by Busan Museum Members Organization and Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Busan and will go on display for 87 days from June 15 to September 9.


Various opening events have taken place to commemorate the friendship and cooperation between
Korea and China. The demonstration of a traditional Chinese tea ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2:00 p.m. and Chinese movies will be presented every Saturday and Sunday during the exhibition period to provide a first-hand experience of Chinese culture. 

An international symposium with three renowned lecturers will be held under the theme “Bronze and Jade Culture in East Asia” in Main Hall of Busan Museum on Thursday, July 5,
1:30 p.m. ~ 5:30 p.m. and 10 lectures on Chinese ancient culture and bronzes will be delivered from Tuesday, July 10 to Friday, July 13. (1:30 p.m. ~ 4:50 p.m.)

 

The exhibition will provide a good opportunity to introduce Shanghai Museum’s world-class collection of ancient Chinese bronzes and jades with a series of relevant programs to promote understanding of culture and history of Korea and China.
