The dark and cavernous spaces under the elevated highways in Busan will soon be transformed into bright and beautiful green spaces, with trees and advanced lighting.

As a part of the Green Busan project, 33,282 evergreen spindle trees
of 8 different species were planted and lighting utilizing sunlight such as bulrush lights and stone lights were installed on a 259-meter section under the Dongseo Elevated Highway, and a 55-meter space at the entrance to Busan Tunnel under the Yeongju Elevated Highway.

Bulrush lighting is a highly efficient LED lighting system which resembles a bulrush, a kind of water plant. It is also a very attractive light, waving in the wind just like the bulrush in nature. Stone lights shaped like natural stones, which delicately penetrate the various colors of the lights, create a fabulous and relaxing night view.

The lighting creates a unique attraction and a beautiful urban night scene. In addition, it will help secure a clear view for drivers at night.

11.8 kilometers of the total of 25.2 kilometers of space under the highways in Busan have been transformed into more environmentally friendly green zones and plans are now being drawn up for how to transform the remaining 13.4 kilometers of space into an evergreen zone.
