Korea's biggest premium shopping mall will be built in the East Busan Tourism Complex in Gijang-gun. The City of Busan held a groundbreaking ceremony for Busan Lotte Premium Shopping Mall in the East Busan Tourism Complex on February 10, 2014. About 1,000 people including Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik, Chairman of Busan Metropolitan Council Kim Seok-jo, and CEO of Lotte Shopping Co., Ltd Shin Heon participated in the ceremony.
The Shopping Mall, with a total floor area of roughly 200,000 square meters situated on a 100,000 square meter site, is scheduled to open the end of the year. The Busan Lotte Premium Shopping Mall will boast 500 brand name outlet stores, electronics stores, movie complex among many others.
The opening of the shopping mall will create 3,000 jobs and is expected to help revitalize the local economy.
Other developments currently underway at the Tourism Complex include a hotel, sports and leisure facilities, golf course as well as the Busan Science Hall.
