Starting January 2014, the last Wednesday of every month has been designated a special “Culture Day” in Korea to help foster more involvement in arts and culture.
The City of Busan hopes that the announcement will give residents more opportunities to experience culture in their daily lives by expanding existing programs that provide free admission to a number of cultural facilities across the city. This will include free admission to permanent exhibitions and in-house special exhibitions at public and art museums with special rates being offered for touring exhibitions.
Special Culture Day events will also carry over to a number of private organizations such as major movie theaters which are expected to offer discounted ticket prices for evening movies.
To celebrate the first Culture Day, a wide range of special events are planned including a Gukak concert (traditional Korean music), a choir performance, Pungmulnori (traditional Korean games), a B-boy dance performance, a brass band performance and performances by K-POP artists are scheduled to take place on January 29, 2014, starting from 2 p.m. at Busan Station Fountain Square.
