The
City of Busan announced that the Asian Film School (tentative name) was officially
named the ‘Busan Asian Film School’ at a field experts’ conference.
The
Busan Asian Film School is a special film institute where tailored education
programs will be offered to Korean and overseas film makers. Film and visual
media courses will also be organized for citizens.
By
continuing to nurture talent in Asia, the city aims to encourage growth in the
industry and reinforce its status as a ‘City of Film’ as designated by UNESCO.
To
accommodate the institute, the Busan Cinema Studios building located in the
Busan Yachting Center, Haeundae, will be expanded at a total cost of over 3.5 billion
won. Construction will begin in April 2015 and be completed in September 2015
with classes set to start in 2016. The school will include a lecture room,
editing room, research room, and library.
