Venu
Srinivasan, Chairman of TVS Motor Company, was
appointed as an honorary citizen of the City of Busan on December 18, 2014.
Mr.
Venu Srinivasan was the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
from 2009 to 2010. He has a powerful presence in the Indian economy and has
demonstrated his love of Korea by serving as an Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai, India.
Chennai,
which is where TVS Motor headquarters is located, is a mecca of the automobile
industry in Inida, accounting for 40 percent of India’s automobile production
and 60 percent of automobile exports.
About 150 Korean companies including Hyundai Motor Company, Lotte
Confectionery Co., Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and automobile components
manufacturers including Busan-based Sungwoo Hitech have extended their business
to Chennai.
President
Park visited India from January 15 – 18, 2014, in commemoration of the 40th
anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties with India. Relations
between the two nations have been upgraded through the Comprehensive Economic Partnership
Agreement (CEPA) and expanded economic cooperation.
