On December 3, 2009, a ubiquitous-style Busan Tourist Information Center (TIC) opened on the site of the former Nampo-dong Area Patrol Unit located in Nampo-dong, Jung-gu. The opening ceremony took place in the presence of Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik, Busan Metropolitan Council Chairperson Je Jong-mo and Korean actress Choi Ji-woo who has been designated as a goodwill ambassador for tourism in Busan.

The Center provides tourist information about Busan’s attractions and translation services to tourists from home and abroad visiting the Yongdusan and Jagalchi Special Tourist Zone. It will be open throughout the year, staffed by tourist guides speaking a variety of foreign languages including English, Chinese, Japanese and Russian.

In addition, the Center has a high-tech tourism information system on Busan’s attractions, including a sky view and tour booth facility, as well as a souvenir exhibition area, a relaxation corner, an internet café and a photo zone featuring images of Cho Ji-woo, for tourists.

Starting from December 1, the ‘Mobile Tourist Information Center’ has started operations. Tourist guides walk around the streets of Nampo-dong, Jagalchi, Kukje Market and Yongdusan Park, which are all popular tourist destinations for foreigners, and offer them tourist information services. This will include offering tourism information and translation services, and providing them with a tourist map. The tourist guides walk around a designated route 4 times a day, from noon to 6 p.m. and are dressed in red vests so tourists can easily distinguish them.

A City official said, “The Busan Tourist Information Center and ‘Mobile Tourist Information Center’ will enhance tourists’ satisfaction by providing better services to those visiting Yondusan and the Jagalchi Market area.”
