Salvation Army's red kettles out around town again for the holiday season

On December 7, the Salvation Army in Busan and the Gyeongnam region are holding their annual bell ringing ceremony in front of Lotte Department Store in Seomyeon to mark the start of their 2009 Red Kettle Christmas campaign and begin their annual holiday fund-raising activities, which will continue until midnight on Christmas Eve at a total of 23 locations in Busan and the Gyeongnam region. In Busan, the Salvation Army red kettles will be appearing at 9 subway stations including Jagalchi, Nampo-dong, Seomyeon (Seomyeon and Daehyeon Underground Shopping Center), Beomil, Dongnae, Yeonsan and Busan Station.

 

The Red Kettle campaign kicks off at 213 locations nationwide and donations will support funds for the underprivileged, for those suffering from heart disease and for welfare facilities.

 

Last year, the red kettles in Busan and the Gyeongnam region collected 269 million won. This year, the goal is to collect 270 million won

An official of the Salvation Army (Korea) said, “Despite the difficult economic circumstances, we expect to be able to achieve our goal this year through the warm-hearted generosity of the people.” 

 

In addition, Busan City and the Community Chest of Busan Social Welfare are holding a 'Charity Donations - Hope 2010 Sharing Campaign', raising money for neighbors in need for two months from December 1 until the end of January, 2010.
