Busan forges sisterhood relations with Chicago

The Busan delegation visited the United States and Canada, and forged closer relations with Chicago.

Busan City has taken steps to reinforce its ties with North America. It also signed an agreement to foster sisterhood relations with Chicago.

By region, North America is Korea? largest trading and investment partner. Its importance has dramatically increased ever since the recent conclusion of the KORUS FTA.

The delegation, headed by Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik, paid a visit to Chicago, San Francisco and Montreal to discuss mutual cooperation matters from May 6 to 13.

During the visit to Chicago, the delegation signed the Busan-Chicago Sisterly Relation Agreement along with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Many businesspeople and Korean-Americans were present.
It is the second agreement made by Busan with a U.S. city. A similar agreement was made with Los Angeles in 1967.

In Montreal, a sister city of Busan, the delegation discussed ways to increase exchanges in various areas including information technology and biosciences among colleges in the two cities.

The discussions also touched on the culture and art sectors, including a plan to send art groups from Busan to the Montreal Festival.

The delegation also toured facilities that focus on special film effects and computer software, which Montreal boasts a No. 1 world ranking in the field.
