Busan, chosen as host city for the 2011 IAPH general assembly

Busan was chosen to host the 27th IAPH general assembly. IAPH is the largest shipping & port related organization in the world. As Busan was chosen to held the assembly, the international status and credibility of Busan is expected to be raised along with ensuing enormous economic effects on the local economy.

 

BPA announced that Busan was unanimously confirmed by the 40 board members as the host city for the 27th IAPH general assembly at the 25th IAPH general assembly held in Hilton America Hotel, in Huston, the United States. BPA and Busan City participated in the assembly and launched extensive promotion activities toward participants, explaining ongoing preparation situation and supporting measures by the government and the city. In addition, BPA set a promotion booth in the exhibition hall to raise an awareness of Busan Port's facility situation and New Port Development and North Port Redevelopment Propjets, which are the largest development projects after the port was opened.

 

Lee Gap-sook, president of BPA delivered the appreciation for the IAPH's final decision and

promised to do its best in preparing a successful 27th assembly with help Ministry of Maritime

and Fisheries Affairs and Busan City in his speech to the assembly.

 

International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) was established in 1955 to facilitate cooperation between ports across the world. The organization has 230 port agencies over 90 countries as members and holds a general assembly every two years inviting 3,000 participants across the world. 

 

Since Korea showed its hope to host the 27th IAPH Conference in the IAPH’s Asia and Oceania Regional Conference held in Busan in 2004, government and BPA have continuously taken promotion activities to the member countries.
