Pusan New International Terminal (PNIT) went into operation in earnest as the SPINEL of APL called at the terminal on March 29. The 3.800TEU-class container ship handled 800 containers and then headed for Shanghai on the same day.

PNIT, which was created in the form of a joint venture between PAS of Singapore and Hanjin Shipping of Korea, was chosen as the operator of the Phase 1-1 Terminal last year and gained operation rights for 3 berths and gantry cranes. The terminal with 84,000 square meter site and 1,200 meter berth length in total can handle 2 million TEU annually by using automated operation system.

An official of BPA (Busan Port Authority) said that as highly productive terminals went into operation, it is expected to contribute to the competitiveness of Busan Port.
