Heads of about 500 global companies will gather in Busan Nov. 17-19 to attend the APEC CEO Summit 2005, the Federation of Korean Industries, the event organizer, said.

Held alongside the main Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, the CEO summit is an annual private gathering of business leaders seeking common prosperity of the Pacific Rim.

In a media briefing, Doosan Group Chairman Park Yong-oh, the chairman of the APEC CEO Summit 2005, said this year’s meeting will mark the biggest-ever gathering of its kind.

Park said he was counting on the event to serve as an opportunity to improve Korea’s image and stimulate the local economy.

The meeting will be held at Lotte Hotel Busan and BEXCO under the theme “Entrepreneurship and Prosperity: Building Successful Partnership in APEC Region.”

Park said about 500 CEOs are expected to attend, including those of Microsoft Corp., Hewlett Packard Development Company, General Motors Corp., HSBC and Fuji Zerox Co. They will discuss about regional economy as well as security and natural disaster issues.

The organizers hope to invite a high-ranking North Korean official as a panelist or an observer, Park added.

Further efforts will be made to invite heads of Korea, the United States, China, Japan and Russia to shed light on the Korean nuclear issue, he said.

The APEC Business Advisory Council meeting, a consultative organ to APEC forum, is also scheduled for Nov. 14-16.
