Online Shopping Mall Businesses Increase

On the 16th the National Statistical Office reported in “The First Quarter E-Commerce Statistics” that online shopping malls had done 1,906.7 billion won worth of business, which was a decrease of 0.5% from the last quarter of last year, but an increase of 10.7% from the first quarter of last year. Online cyber shopping malls had 8,17.9 billion won of trade, which was an increase of 41.5% compared to the first quarter of last year. By contrast, cyber shopping malls combining both on- and offline sales did 1,088.7 billion won worth of business, which was a decrease of 4.8% from the same time last year. Compared to the last quarter of last year, online shopping increased 24.7%, but businesses combining on- and offline sales decreased by 13.6%. Therefore the ratio of online cyber shopping mall businesses out of all cyber shopping malls increased from 33.6% in the first quarter of last year to 42.9% in the first quarter of this year.
