Last year, Korea’s container traffic reached the highest levels ever recorded, and transfer traffic at Busan Port increased by more than 10 percent to rank third in the world. The volume of traffic at Busan Port increased 5.2 percent compared to 2011, according to the Busan Port Authority (BPA), reaching 17,031,000 TEU thanks to increasing transfer volume from global shipping companies. Transfer traffic increased 10.2 percent, totaling 8.1 million TEU and earning the impressive world ranking.

Overall, Busan Port handled 75.7 percent of Korea’s container traffic, which was 22,497,000 TEU.

Transfer traffic volume increased significantly thanks to Busan City and BPA, which worked together on targeted marketing campaigns directed at major shipping companies, including Maersk, CMA-CGM and APL as well as local shipping companies Hanjin Shipping and Hyundai Merchant Marine.
