Number of visitors at Gamcheon Culture Village reaches 100,000 in 2012

Gamcheon Culture Village in Saha-gu, nicknamed “Republic of Korea’s Machu Picchu”, had nearly 100,000 visitors last year and about 3,000 of the tourists among them were foreigners.


Saha-gu District announced that the number of visitors to the Gamcheon Culture Village was 98,384 in 2012, nearly four times higher than the 25,000 visitors in 2011(1,500 foreign tourists).

Government and political figures like president-elect Park Geun-hye, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choe Kwang-shik, and foreign delegations and professionals including SAIKI Takahito Vice Mayor of Kobe, SATO Masaru Professor in the Design Department at Kyushu University, senior officials from Uganda and Tanzania were among the visitors.


Gamcheon Culture Village is undergoing another transformation this year. Ten art works will be installed at the Gamcheon Culture Village from the Machu Picchu Alley Project which was selected as a village art project and financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

 

 

The mayor of Saha-gu, Lee Gyoung-hun said, “We will continuously proceed with various projects for the Gamcheon Culture Village this year.” and added, “Also, profitable projects will be carried out to support itself.”
