The Busan Foundation for International Activities (BFIA) has appointed Professor Alok K. Roy as the first foreign Secretary General of BFIA. On December 21st 2015, he became the first foreign head of a Busan City-affiliated organization or corporation. The new Secretary General has worked as a professor at the Department of Hindi, in Busan University of Foreign Studies, for the past 26 years, and worked as an advisor in the field of international exchanges, with the Busan City International Cooperation Subcommittee and Busan Foreign Workers Support Center. Professor Roy came to Korea in 1980 as a scholarship student supported by the government, and became the 100,000th foreigner to be naturalized as a Korean citizen. Based on his knowledge and love of Busan, and his special insight into the on going internationalization of Busan, the BFIA is looking forward to enhancing its international cooperation not only with countries like the United States, China and Japan, but also increasingly with India and other emerging third world powers.
