Busan’s Gwangan Bridge, nicknamed ‘Diamond Bridge’, will be lit up by pink lights from October 7 – October 9 as part of the “Global Landmark Illumination” project, which will be a part of the annual global breast cancer awareness program. Over 200 landmarks and monuments around the world, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, Tokyo Tower in Tokyo, Japan and the Niagara Falls in Canada, are anticipated to go pink to mark this global effort to raise awareness of the disease. Pink is the symbolic color of the breast cancer awareness campaign.

In addition, various events organized by Busan City and the Busan branch of the Korean Cancer Association such as health lectures, health checkups and a music concert for cancer patients at cancer centers in Busan are scheduled to take place in the city.

During the second week of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Week, the annual pink ribbon campaign will be held around the world with the participation of many nations’ prominent female figures, including world leaders, ‘first ladies’ and personalities.

Busan City has contributed to this global effort by hosting its own local campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Week since 2007.
