The tentatively named Myeongji Bridge, connecting Gangseo-gu and Saha-gu, will open on October 29. The city has moved the scheduled opening date forward from the end of December and the new bridge is expected to solve chronicle traffic congestion in the West Busan area.

The 6-lane bridge, which connects No. 75 Square, Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu and No. 66 Square, Sinpyeong-dong, Saha-gu, is 5,205 meters long and is in its final stage of completion. The opening of the bridge will in particular improve traffic condition on Nakdong Bridge during rush hours and accelerate the attraction of companies to the Noksan Industrial Complex and West Busan Logistics Complex, as well as the growth of companies already there.

The bridge will be toll-free until early February 2009, and then a toll of 1,500 won for passenger cars is expected to be charged.

The bridge’s route was partially altered during its design stage, and will no longer pass through Eulsukdo after determined resistance by environmental groups. Construction has taken 4 years and 10 months since work on the bridge was started in January 2005.

Currently, local residents are discussing what to name the bridge.
