BusanCity plans to increase the number of international flights and to open new direct flight routes from GimhaeInternationalAirport. A new Busan – Singapore service will be established this December, followed by flight services to Fukuoka and HanedaAirport in Japan from next year.
On September 11, officials from the Singapore Tourism Board and the Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) visited Busan to discuss the opening of a direct flight between GimhaeInternationalAirport in Busan and ChangiAirport in Singapore. They came to an agreement on operating a temporary service with 10 flights over the two month period of December, 2009 and January, 2010. It is the first time that intermediate distance (over 4,000 km) direct flights will operate from GimhaeInternationalAirport.
BusanCity and the Singapore Tourism Board plan to open a regular flight between the two cities as early as the first half of the next year based on the results of the temporary flight service. There have been many demands for a Busan - Singapore direct flight by Busan-based business leaders, foreign investors, and Busan citizens, because the direct flight service will cut travel time tremendously compared with traveling via Incheon and will also provide easier connections to other cities around the world.
The regular Busan – Fukuoka flight will operate 3 times a week from March, 2010. BusanCity and Fukuoka agreed on increasing the number of flights of regional airlines connecting the two cities at the Busan-Fukuoka Economic Cooperation Council, which was held last month. From October, 2010, a new direct service from GimhaeInternationalAirport to HanedaAirport in Tokyo will operate twice a day.
