Busan Wants to Host ITU Telecom 2008

The way things are put together at here 2006 Hong Kong Telecom World is a little loose in comparison with the 2004 ITU Asia held in Busan, Korea.

So commented former Korea's MIC minister Yang Seung-taik, who concurrently serves as Tong-myong University president, about his impression here in Hong Kong after looking around the 2006 ITU Hong Kong Telecom World.

In that sense, the former Korea's MIC minister said that Busan, Korea has a sufficient reason to be able to host ITU Telecom Asia 2008.

President Yang, among others, pointed out that the Forum venue here in Hong Kong ITU Telecom World is too noisy to concentrate on subjects for participants.

Touching upon Busan hosting ITU Telecom Asia 2008, Yang explains: " Busan has successfully transformed itself into a major global convention and film city by hosting a number of major global events including the 7th ITU Telecom Asia, Korea-Japan World Cup Soccer games, the Asian Games, Busan International Film Festival and Busan International Motor Show."

It is said that also Mayor Hur Nam-sik of Busan stresses that the City has completed the plan to create a U-city by applying the latest information technology to all sectors of the city such as port logistics, transportation, convention and health. It is expected that "Under the plan to build the world's first U-city, Busan's telecom and computer networks will be linked to achieve a ubiquitous wireless network," Yang notes.

Mayor Hur further explained: "If we can take advantage of our experience as the host of the last conference, I am confident that we will be able to make ITU Telecom Asia 2008 a sure success, and the city government will spare no effort and provide all the support to make it possible."
