Korea Expressway Corporation’s (KHC) Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters disclosed on September 19 that Seoul outbound highways in the metropolis will be most congested during the morning of September 24 and Seoul inbound expressways on September 26, the last day of Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holidays.

In particular, it was found that 28.1 percent of
Seoul residents will travel within the city while 24.8 percent are to migrate to Chungcheong-do, 20.1 percent to Jeolla-do and 17.4 percent to Gyeongsang-do. Consequently, Seoul-Busan Highway, Central Highway and West Coast Highway are expected to be the most clogged.

Meanwhile, KHC recommended travelers to check real-time traffic information through its website (www.ex.co.kr), traffic information portal site (www.roadplus.com) and ARS (1588-2505) before heading out to decide the most optimal departure time and travel route.

To disperse the traffic volume during Chuseok holidays, KHC is to publish 500,000 expressway guide maps, which provide a traffic congestion calendar that forecasts traffic congestion by route and timeline, and distribute them at highway rest stops during the Chuseok holidays.
