The Jung-gu District Office in Busan has announced that the Busan Christmas Tree Festival won a 2014 Asian Townscapes Award (ATA), on October 14, 2014.
Under
the theme of “Townscapes Bridging to the Future”, 13 judges representing UN-HABITAT,
UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Asia Townscape Design
Society, and Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center selected nine winning works
for the 2014 Asian Townscape Awards in October 8, 2014, at an evaluation
committee held in Fukuoka. The Busan Christmas Tree Festival was among the nine
finalists with the highest scores.
On
September 29, 2014, the Busan Christmas Tree Festival won the Gold Pinnacle
Award for "Best TV Promotion (ad spot or PSA)" hosted by the International
Festivals & Events Association (IFEA).
The
UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, in cooperation with the
Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center, Asian Habitat Society, and Asia Townscape
Design Society, has hosted the Asian Townscape Awards since 2010. The award
aims to highlight and honor significant efforts made by Asian cities and
organizations for the improvement, revitalization and creation of beautiful and
harmonious townscapes that are safe, sustainable and respect local history and
cultures.
The Busan Christmas Tree Festival is growing every year, from a festival in Korea to a festival in Asia. Visitors to the festival reached 6.3 million last year.
This year’s Busan Christmas Tree Festival will be held around Gwangbok-ro, Jung-gu from November 29, 2014, through January 4, 2015.
