The Jung-gu District Office in Busan has announced that the Busan Christmas Tree Festival won a 2014 Asian Townscapes Award (ATA), on October 14, 2014.

Under the theme of “Townscapes Bridging to the Future”, 13 judges representing UN-HABITAT, UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Asia Townscape Design Society, and Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center selected nine winning works for the 2014 Asian Townscape Awards in October 8, 2014, at an evaluation committee held in Fukuoka. The Busan Christmas Tree Festival was among the nine finalists with the highest scores.

On September 29, 2014, the Busan Christmas Tree Festival won the Gold Pinnacle Award for "Best TV Promotion (ad spot or PSA)" hosted by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA).

The UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, in cooperation with the Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center, Asian Habitat Society, and Asia Townscape Design Society, has hosted the Asian Townscape Awards since 2010. The award aims to highlight and honor significant efforts made by Asian cities and organizations for the improvement, revitalization and creation of beautiful and harmonious townscapes that are safe, sustainable and respect local history and cultures.

The Busan Christmas Tree Festival is growing every year, from a festival in Korea to a festival in Asia. Visitors to the festival reached 6.3 million last year.

This year’s Busan Christmas Tree Festival will be held around Gwangbok-ro, Jung-gu from November 29, 2014, through January 4, 2015.
