A variety of marine sports options are available in Busan.

Busan City will run its ‘Marine Sports Academy’ at 10 venues, including Gwangalli, Songdo and Dadaepo beaches from April 4 until the end of October. Courses are open to anyone who would like to enjoy learning about any of 11 different marine sports, including yachting, rowing, canoeing, windsurfing, sea kayaking, rafting, banana boating and surfing, at the academy.

At Gwangalli Beach, the Korea Water Activity Sports Association operates marine sports classes in water skiing, windsurfing, jet skiing, motor boating, wakeboarding, fly fishing, banana boating, sea rafting, yachting and fin swimming.

The yachting school, which has operated since 1993, will open from April until August at the Suyeong Yacht Center. Classes will be offered at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels to children as well as adults. Upon completion of their course, participants will receive an official certificate from Busan Yacht Association and will be able to benefit from the following services – yachting information, club activities, qualification for competitions and free equipment rental.

In order to promote, popularize and support marine sports, Busan City expanded the number of venues from 2 to 10 in 2008, and the evident enthusiasm of about 15,000 marine sports academy participants during 2008 was proof of the popularity of marine sports in Busan.

Under the slogan, “Marine sports for everyone! “, Busan City will be developed as the nation’s hub city for marine sports, a city where people can enjoy marine sports at any number of different locations throughout the year.

Individuals, families and groups are welcome to apply for the courses and activities of the academy. The academy is open from 9:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. every day of the week except Mondays. Each academy is offering between one and four different sports depending on the venue.

The academy has half-day, full-day, two-day and other courses. Participants only have to bear the cost of textbooks and insurance fees. Below is a list of marine sports venues and organizers.
