Busan City to operate “Yellow Dust Management Team” during Spring season

Busan City announced the formation of a “Yellow Dust Management Team” to reduce damage from the yellow dust phenomenon, which often occurs during the Spring season, from March 1 until the end of May

The Yellow Dust Management Team will form whenever needed, based on Yellow Dust conditions – with 2 officials on a Yellow Dust Watch (Dust Concentration: less than 400
/), 6 officials for a Yellow Dust Advisory (Dust Concentration : exceeding 400/ for over 2 hours), 7 officials for a Yellow Dust Warning (Dust Concentration : exceeding 800/ for over 2 hours). The team will work in close cooperation with the Busan Regional Meteorological Administration, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the press to minimize damage caused by the yellow dust. 17 city-owned air pollution monitoring stations will monitor real-time yellow dust levels.

When yellow dust storms occur, you should:

- Check weather information through TV, Internet, and radio.

- Keep windows and doors closed.

- Avoid outdoor activities, especially for the elderly, young children, and persons with lung diseases (such as asthma), allergic conjunctivitis and rhinitis, etc.

- Wear protective glasses, masks and long-sleeved clothes when going out.

- Wash hands carefully when returning home.

- Wash fruit and vegetables very carefully.

- Use air filters to keep air clear, and humidifiers to increase indoor humidity levels.
