Korea's second largest carrier Asiana Airlines Inc. said Tuesday (March 27) it launched flights linking the southern port city of Busan and Ho Chi Minh City, the largest commercial city in Vietnam, to meet growing demand for the route.

The carrier said there are three flights per week, scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

"The opening of the route will contribute to the business activities of Korean companies, which are trying to tap the Vietnamese financial and construction sectors," Kang Joo-an, president of Asiana Airlines, said in the opening ceremony for the route held Sunday at Gimhae international airport near Busan.

Earlier, Asiana Airlines expanded the number of weekly flights between Busan and the Philippine capital Manila from four to seven starting Sunday.
