A star-studded start to the Busan games campaign
Nearly 4,000 residents of the Gyeongsang-do were on hand to kick off Busan’s bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics on March 10 amidst a festival atmosphere. The Olympic bid support committee organized the event. (President of Pusan National University Kim Inn-se and six others are co-chairs of the organization.)
Reflecting the city's hope to revive the glory of the 1988 Seoul Olympics in Busan, the event was held under the theme, "Busan 2020, Again 88."
Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik and sports star including Olympic medalists were invited.
The second part of the event was a celebratory performance by Girl's Generation, Insooni and Park Hyun-bin, following which all present sang the theme song that brought everyone together during the Seoul Olympics:"Hand in Hand." Citizens' organizations from the five cities in north and south Gyeongsang that have promised to work together to host the Olympics in 2020 participated in the ceremony, reflecting the strong will of the 13 million citizens of the provinces to host the game. For hosting the sixth World Forum on Sport, Education and Culture for the International Olympic Committee, the 2008 Busan World TreX-Games, and other world sports events, Busan has been acknowledged by the IOC for its ability to host the Olympics. Busan plans to organize a Busan Sports Development Committee and work to lay out the city's detailed plans to host the games.
