Free medical checkups for foreign women married to Korean men

Foreign women married to Korean men can receive free medical checkups from mid March to late September.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced Wednesday (March 14) it would launch a free medical service for the foreign women married to Koreans but still not official citizens who otherwise are not covered by insurance fees and other general medical expenses.
It usually takes two years on average for foreign women to gain Korean citizenship, purely by marriage. Foreign women miss out on various social benefits during this period, including medical insurance.
The Korea Association of Health Promotion (KAHP) will shoulder all the expenses for the latest project scheduled from March 15 to late September. About 6,000 women are expected to receive the free medical service.
Medical examinations will cover blood pressure, urinalysis, kidney function, cholesterol level as well as tests for diabetes, AIDS, cervical cancer and x-rays. The results will be delivered to the patients' home addresses within two weeks.
Those testing positive for an ailment will be guided to a nearby clinic for additional checkups and other services.
