Busan Port’s success is attributed to greater increases in the export of machinery and precision equipment (33.3 percent), steel and metal products (20.9 percent) and ships (24.7%), while the airport's exports of semiconductors were up only 10.8 percent and its exports of wireless communication products were down 12 percent. Busan Port handled $99.7 billion worth of exports and $79.8 billion in imports.
Incheon International Airport handled $87.7 billion worth of exports and $80.4 billion in imports. More exports were handled by Busan, while more imports were handled by Incheon. The total national export volume last year was $325.5 billion, breaking the $300 billion mark and ranking 11th in the world. Of the total export volume, Busan Port handled 30.7 percent and Incheon International Airport handled 27 percent.
