An oceanic high-technology research complex will be built in Busan to revitalize the marine-bio industry and develop marine products that yield high added value.

The Busan metropolitan city government unveiled a plan Tuesday to create an oceanic high-technology research complex on a site in Gijang-gun covering 100,000 pyong. The construction of the complex, which is devoted to researches of maritime affairs and fisheries, is expected to begin in 2005.

After a final agreement was reached to relocate the marine science and technology research institute of Pukyong National University from Dongbaek Islet, Haeundae-gu, to Gijang-gun, the plan to build the complex has become realistic.

The city government is going to select a site for the complex in June, and work on details of the plan and secure a budget from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries this year. The construction of the complex will begin next year, it said.
