City aims to make life more convenient and pleasant

Busan City has enacted an ordinance that supports foreigners becoming a part of the Busan community. It reflects the city's determination to make Busan a comfortable place for foreigners and to escalate the city's level of globalization.

The city has seen a steady growth in the number of international marriages and foreign residents since 2005, and the city aims to provide comprehensive support in administration for foreigners to enjoy the full benefits of being a Busan citizen.

The "Ordinance of Support for Foreigners in Busan" outlines the basic aspects on how foreigners can settle down in the local community, such as Korean language education, consultations on legal, employment and life matters, the provision of basic conveniences, and emergency support, and the hosting of cultural and sports events.

It also aims to support civic organizations, assisting foreigners to become a part of the local community.

Busan will also reward foreigners who make notable contributions to the local community and the status of honorary citizen will be endowed. The ordinance also stipulates that every May 20 will be "Foreigners' Day."

The following week will be celebrated with various events, such as a ceremony, cultural and art events, research presentations and international exchanges.

The city plans to continue its effort to make the city a better place to live for foreigners.
