Rediscover Busan City through 19 of its tourist attractions that make it unique.

Busan City announced that 19 of its biggest and best tourist attractions will be specially promoted in order to attract domestic and overseas tourists. Of the 19 attractions, 5 are the largest of their kind either in Korea or in the entire world.


These tourist attractions are well-known to the locals, however their value is not widely known either domestically or internationally. The city will manage them effectively and promote them to a wider market while continuously searching for other tourist features of Busan that make it unique.


The 19 tourist attractions include: Shinsegae Centum City which last month was listed as an official Guinness World Record as the world biggest shopping complex; the UN Memorial Cemetery which is the only one of its kind in the world; the world's largest fountain built on land, at Dadaepo; the Busan New Media Outdoor Art Museum, which is the world's first outdoor art museum; Korea’s only duplex bridge spanning the sea, Gwangan Bridge; Korea’s only used book store alley, in Bosu-dong; and the nation’s most concentrated medical center cluster, in Seomyeon.
 

The world’s largest shopping complex, Shinsegae Centum City

ShinsegaeCentum City, a multi-function complex where visitors can enjoy shopping as well as sophisticated culture, leisure and entertainment in one place is located in Centum City, U-dong, Haeundae-gu District. The complex has a total area of 293,906 and now holds the Guinness World Record as the largest department store in the world, a record which Macy’s in Manhattan, New York City, had kept for 100 years.


 


 

Parasols at Haeundae Beach set a new Guinness World Record

On August 2, 2008, Haeundae Beach had 7,937 parasols and set a new Korean record which is expected to be listed as an official world record.


 

The world biggest floor music fountain, “Dadaepo Sunset Fountain of Dream”

The 2,519-square-meter “Dadaepo Sunset Fountain of Dream” located near the beach’s entrance is 60 meters in diameter and 180-meter wide and propels water up to 55 meters above the ground. It started operating last month and is currently listed in the Korean Guinness Book of Records.





The UN Memorial Cemetery, the only one of its kind in the world.

In the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, located at Dayeong-dong, Nam-gu, rest the remains of about 2,300 UN warriors who gave their lives during the Korean War in the fight for world peace and freedom.


 

Songdo Beach, the first public bathing beach in the country.

In 1913, Songdo Uweon Corporation was established by the Japanese and the company built the Sujeong resort at Songdo Beach, Seo-gu. This became the first public bathing beach in the country.





 

Songdo Dolphin Lighthouse, the first sea sculpture in the country.

The dolphin-shaped lighthouse built in the sea by Songdo Beach, was the first-ever marine sculpture in the country.





The nation’s oldest hot spring, Dongnae Hot Spring

Dongnae Oncheon (Hot Spring), located at Oncheon 1-dong, Dongnae-gu District, is the first hot spring to appear on historic written records, with a 1,330-year history making it the oldest in the country.

 


 

Geumjeongsanseong (Mountain Fortress), the largest mountain fortress in the country

Geumjeongsanseong (Mountain Fortress) surrounding Mt. Geumjeong is the largest mountain fortress in the country and was completed in 1703 (in the 29th year of King Sukjong’s reign). The fortress covers a total area of 8.2 and has walls 18,845 meters long and 1.5 to 3 meters high.


 


 

Gwangan Bridge, the only duplex bridge spanning the sea in Korea,

Gwangan Bridge has a total length of 7,420 meters and a width of 18 to 25 meters. It connects Namcheon-dong, Suyeong-gu and U-dong, Haeundae-gu.

 


 

Millak Raw Fish Town, which has the greatest density of raw fish restaurants in Korea

Millak Raw Fish Town, located in Millak-dong, Suyeong-gu District, is the nation’s largest raw fish center with nearly 300 sashimi restaurants located there.

 


 

The country’s first waterfront park, Millak Waterfront Park

Millak Subyeon Waterfront Park (543 meters long and 60 meters wide) is a relaxing place by the sea and the first of ts kind established in Korea.  It is located next to Millak Raw Fish Town.


 


 

World's First Outdoor Art Center, the ‘Busan New Media Outdoor Art Museum’ at Gwangalli

‘Busan New Media Outdoor Art Museum’ at Gwangalli Beach is the world's first free outdoor art gallery, exhibiting the art works of world-renowned artists such as Le Pot by Jean-Pierre Raynaud and Digitation by Paik Nam-June.

 

 

PIFF Square, Nampo-dong, the historical home of the PIFF Film Festival

PIFF square at Nampo-dong, Jung-gu District, is PIFF’s birthplace and each year the handprints of world famous actors and directors invited to the festival are added to the square’s paved surface. Important PIFF events are held here every year.

 


 

Bosu-dong Bookstore Alley, the only used bookstore alley in the country

Bosu-dong Bookstore Alley in Jung-gu District was established during the Korean War by refugees who sold used magazines obtained from U.S. army personnel for a living. It is the only used bookstore alley still open in Korea.





Jagalchi Market, the country’s largest marine products market,

Jagalchi Market was recently renovated and the new seagull-shaped building houses Korea’s largest marine products market, with 3,577 of stores in the 4,841 facility.

Busan Cooperative Fish Market, which sells over 30 percent of

’s fish catch, is located at Nambumin-dong, Seo-gu with a total area of 43,134. It is capable of berthing 24 vessels of up to 100 tons at the same time.

Busan Port is the biggest port in Korea. It consists of the North and South Ports, Gamcheon Port and Dadaepo Port, which handle 40 percent of marine export logistics, 81 percent of containers and 42 percent of the national output of fishery products.

 


 

Globally important Migratory Bird Habitat, Nakdong River Estuary

The Nakdong River Estuary in Hadan-dong, Saha-gu District, is a habitat for migrant birds from all over the world such as swans, freshwater cormorants, kites, Steller's Sea Eagles, seagulls and Kentish plovers.


 


 

Medical Street in Seomyeon

113 medical centers, including 27 dental clinics, 15 oriental medicine clinics and 71 other clinics are clustered together in Seomyeon’s Medical Zone in Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu District.
