Phnom Penh, Cambodia has become Busan’s 21st sister city, stimulating exchange programs in the economy, culture, education and tourism between the two.
Representatives of Busan City, the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education and the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry will visit Phnom Penh on July 11 to sign a formal agreement, which will be allow Busan to expand its exchange network in Southeast Asia, which began with Ho Chi Minh City.
Busan hopes the visit will help sustain the friendship and cooperation between Korea and Cambodia that got a boost at the ASEAN special summit on Jeju in June.
During the trip delegates from the two cities will decide upon the details of the cities’ expanded ties. Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik remarked, “We will discuss the support for and safety of Korean companies in Cambodia and sign an agreement with Phnom Penh.”
