The Richard H. Sidebotham Donated Collection Exhibition, entitled “Sidebotham’s One Hundred Years of Promise” will be held at the Busan Modern History Museum from July 4 until August 30.

Richard H. Sidebotham (1874 ~1908) was an American missionary who worked in Busan and Daegu from 1899 until 1907 during the period of the opening of Korea’s ports. His missionary work contributed to the initial establishment of Christianity in and around Busan and Daegu.

During his sabbatical year, he returned home and was doing fund-raising for his missionary work in Korea when an accidental gas explosion killed him, so he was unable to keep the promise he had made to come back to Korea.

A century later, his granddaughter Dr. Sara Curtice Greenfield visited Busan, her mother’s birthplace, and donated her grandfather’s precious keepsakes to the Busan Museum.
