A global leader in automobile parts, the Behr Group, has initiated factory operations in Busan.

On June 18, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs Bae Young-kil, Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority Commissioner Kim Moon-hee, Vice President Colin Carter of the Behr Group and Secretary General Jurgen Weohler of the German-Korean Chamber of Commerce & Industry gathered for the opening ceremony of the Behr Busan Factory. Behr Korea Inc. is a wholly owned local subsidiary of the Germany-based Behr Group.

The Behr Busan Factory is located within the Jisa Industrial Complex for automobile parts manufacturers in Gangseo-gu District. The company built a office building and a factory with a 10 billion won budget. Behr Korea will invest an additional 27 billion won ($21 million) by 2011 to develop the plant into a mid-sized automobile parts company with a target of over 100 billion won in annual sales by that time.

The Behr Group, a global company with a 105-year history, has 17 technology research centers and 28 factories all over the world. It is the market leader for automobile engine cooling systems and air conditioning parts. The company has 19,000 employees and recorded 5.6 trillion won in sales last year.

With the official opening of Behr Korea, the Jisa Industrial Complex is now home to 180 companies with businesses related to advanced technology and information and communications, while 13 of these have already become key parts of the Busan economy.
