Under the slogan ‘Now Playing,’ a game fest begins

Korea’s largest gaming event, G-STAR, returns on Nov. 12-15 at BEXCO, Haeundae. Celebrating its 11th year under the slogan “Now Playing,” the extravaganza features 2,636 booths set up by 633 companies from 35 countries, at which participants can play the newest games on the spot.

Expectations for the event are high, with a slew of companies including Nexon, NCSOFT, Sony Computer Entertainment, Neople and  Monawa taking part. Mobile gaming companies also have a strong presence this year.

The show is mainly sponsored by 4:33, the first mobile gaming company to host G-STAR. The company is set to debut its new role-playing game “Lost Kingdom.”

NEXON will have a whopping 300 booths this year, which has raised hopes that it will unveil a flurry of new games.

NCSOFT, meanwhile, will have 100 booths and may also release new additions.

G-STAR will take place at BEXCO: The B2C (Business to Customer) Zone can be found in BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1, whereas the B2B (Business to Business) Zone is located in BEXCO Exhibition Hall 2.

At the B2C Zone, visitors can try out the newest games and attend various events. Company investment will be discussed in the B2B Zone.

A favorite among gaming buffs, NCSOFT’s Blade and Soul World Championship is also set to return this year. Riot Games’ League of Legends World Championship is not to be missed.

The global online streaming channel Twitch TV, which specializes in gaming, will stream the gaming event live in real time.

Tips for G-STAR

- Online ticket purchase

More than 200,000 people are anticipated to attend G-STAR, so it would be wise to plan ahead and buy tickets online rather than on-site.

In order to purchase the tickets, use the Auction Ticket homepage (ticket.auction.co.kr). This way, you can get into the venue without a wait.

Once your ticket is purchased online, present your ID or student card stating your date of birth to receive your admission card. G-STAR admission is 8,000 won ($7) for adults and 4,000 won for adolescents.

- Transportation discounts

Air Busan and Korail offer special packages for G-STAR participants.

Air Busan will provide a 20 percent discount on its Gimpo-Busan route from Nov. 7. To take advantage, visit www.airbusan.com. For more information, call 051-410-0833 for domestic passengers; or +82-70-7997-3060 for international passengers.

In addition, Korail’s special G-STAR 2015-KTX includes an admission ticket and round KTX tickets for passengers using routes between Busan and other major cities like Seoul, Gwangmyeong, Daejeon and Dongdaegu.

The package is available from Nov. 10 and can be purchased on the official homepage (www.letskorail.com). For details, call 1544-7788.

- Shuttle bus

For tourists, free shuttle buses run between BEXCO and major hotels, Busan Station and Gimhae Airport.

On Nov. 11, before the event, shuttle buses will operate from Gimhae International Airport to BEXCO and hotel areas in Haeundae for staff from participating companies.

Visitors can take the shuttle to BEXCO from Busan Station or from Nopodong Terminal between Nov. 12 and 15.
