The southern port city of Busan will be the nation's first to provide incentives to families with three or more children, including discounts on bank interest rates, hospital bills and product purchases.

The measures take effect Wednesday.

City officials signed an agreement Monday with two hundred-60 companies, organizations and public cultural facilities in Busan providing for the family incentives.

Under the system, couples who bore their third child after 2000 receive a "family love card" that will offer discounts at designated firms, clinics and banks.

About half of the city's more than eight thousand eligible households have applied for the card.
